Fish Creek, Wis. (July 28, 2023) – Door Community Auditorium (DCA) is pleased to announce “Blues, Roots, and Hoots,” a series of shows running from October 22 through November 25 and including a 3-day festival, November 3-5.
“October and November are fantastic months in Door County—the weather starts to get chilly and folks really want to gather after the busy-ness of the summer and early fall,” said DCA executive director Cari Lewis. “We think some blues, jazz, roots, and laughs is just what the season calls for.”
The late fall series will begin October 22 with “When You Wish Upon a Star: A Jazz Tribute to 100 Years of Disney.”
On October 28, DCA will present “Memphis and Door County Voices: Sister Rosetta Tharpe & Beyond,” featuring Cathy Grier, Susan Marshall, & Reba Russell, along with John Lewis, Solomon Lindenberg, Eric Lewis, and Paul Taylor.
November 3 will bring the Indonesian-American jazz outfit Joey Alexander Trio to DCA. November 4, acclaimed vocalist Lizz Wright will appear in a double bill with legendary blues harmonica player and guitarist Bobby Rush. And November 5, the weekend will close out with “Stay Prayed Up,” a documentary described as “a tent revival disguised as a movie matinee.” The film screening will be followed by a “spiritual helpline gospel revue” performance by Phil Cook and musicians from the film.
November 9 and 10 will bring Bizhiki Unbound, a multidimensional music performance that brings Ojibwe traditional and powwow music into an expanded musical palette. And November 11, beloved Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens will return to DCA by popular demand, this time on his Old Fashioned Tour.
“When You Wish Upon a Star: A Jazz Tribute to 100 Years of Disney,” Joey Alexander Trio, and Bizhiki Unbound will include special daytime matinees for Door County students.
“Blues, Roots, and Hoots” will end November 25, when DCA will kick off the holiday season with an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with Big Mouth and Special Guests.
Tickets for the Blues, Roots, and Hoots shows go on sale to the general public August 2. Special ticket pre-sales for DCA VIPs begin July 31. (For more information on becoming a VIP by joining the Auditorium Society, visit www.dcauditorium.org.)
The 3-day festival is made possible in part by grant funding from the Community Investment Fund a program of Destination Door County and Door County Community Foundation.
