DCA Kicks Off Winter Season with Cool Bay Jazz Coffeehouse Concert; Morning Lecture About Blue Zone Nutrition

December 29, 2025 by Laurel Ciohon

Fish Creek, Wis. (December 29, 2025) – Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will kick off its 2026 winter season on Saturday, January 10 with two events: a 10 a.m. “Door County Talks” lecture about nutrition and “blue zones” by dietician Jennifer Sherman; and an evening Coffeehouse Concert by Door County quintet Cool Bay Jazz at 7 p.m. Door County students Miles Richmond, Luke McCormack, and Blake Ouradnik will play an opening set before the evening performance.

Door County Talks: Nutrition/Healthy Eating with Jennifer Sherman

Jennifer Sherman’s 10 a.m. lecture will be the first 2026 installment of DCA’s annual “Door County Talks” series. The entire 2026 series, which is sponsored by Cynthia and Tom LaConte, will explore the concept of “blue zones,” a term referring to regions in the world where people live to or beyond age 100 with few of the degenerative aging diseases prevalent in many parts of the world. Attendees are encouraged but not required to watch the Netflix series, Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, before attending the events.

Jennifer Sherman is a dietician who received a master’s degree in human nutrition after working as an engineer for over 20 years. Jennifer’s uses her unique background and passion for good nutrition to help others navigate the often overwhelming number of food-related decisions we make each day. At DCA her talk will focus on nutrition and healthy eating.

All Door County Talks begin at 10:00 a.m. Lectures are free to the public; freewill donations are encouraged. Coffee and blue zone-friendly bakery will be available for purchase. Each talk will include a short break, a post-talk question-and-answer session with the speaker, and a chance to meet and reconnect with the year-round Door County friends and neighbors.

Coffeehouse Concert: Cool Bay Jazz with Opening Set by Miles Richmond, Luke McCormack, and Blake Ouradnik

At 7 p.m., also in the DCA lobby, Cool Bay Jazz will perform the first Coffeehouse Concert of this season. These concerts show off the cozy intimacy of the DCA lobby and feature some of the best musical talent Door County has to offer.

This week’s ensemble, Cool Bay Jazz, features pianist Tim Fox, singer Deirdre Fellner, bassist Dennis Keith Johnson, drummer Bill Knipfer, and guitarist John Lewis, all of whom

had careers in music in cities around the country and now all live in Door County. Their approach is eclectic, a big umbrella under which styles from various decades and musical cultures are fair game. With an extensive and constantly expanding repertoire, CBJ has been attracting audiences curious to discover what musical delights may be heard on any given night.

As part of this year’s Coffeehouse Concert series, each show will feature a Door County student opening act. On January 10, Jazz trio Miles Richmond, Luke McCormack, and Blake Ouradnik (all Gibraltar students) will open.

All Coffeehouse Concerts take place at 7:00 p.m. in the DCA Fireside lobby. Tickets are $20 each and advance reservations are strongly suggested. Coffee and bakery will be available for purchase from Happy Coffee, also the sponsor of the Coffeehouse series.

DCA is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
