Fish Creek, Wis. (March 21, 2023) – On Wednesday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m., Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present a performance by Japanese drum ensemble Yamato. Two student matinees will also take place earlier in the day.
From their home base in Asuka Village, Japan, Yamato travels extensively, bringing the sound of Japan’s Wadaiko drums to audiences worldwide. Wadaiko drums are made of animal skin and ancient trees, some of which are 400 years old—and to Yamato, the drums reflect the center of life and the source of power that pulsates within the human body. With exceptional skill and unwavering conviction, Yamato’s performers envelop audiences in the life force conveyed by the powerful drums.
The Scotsman wrote that Yamato’s live performance “is a show of unbridled enthusiasm, much humor, and great musical variety.”
On Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m., DCA will present a Circle of Drums with Jahmes Finlayson (free and open to anyone who’d like to join) as a way to get the Door County community in the mood for Yamato’s performance.
Yamato’s performance is part of DCA’s Passport Program Series, which presents unique cultural and educational experiences, bringing the world to Door County students and families. The Passport Program Series is presented in partnership with Friends of Gibraltar and sponsored by Presenting Sponsor Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik; Major Sponsors The Dörr Hotel, Main Street Market, Peninsula Pulse; and Partners Alexander’s Restaurant, Grasse’s Grill, WPR, Wood Rabbit Acupuncture, and Zero Sum. Additional support for the evening performance comes from supporting sponsors Barbara & Richard Board and Major Sponsors Dale & Margaret West.
Yamato will perform at DCA at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. Tickets for the evening concert range from $28 to $48. Student matinee tickets are also available and cost $4 for students and chaperones. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek.
