DCA Presents Multi-Dimensional Powwow Music Performance “Bizhiki” November 10; Comic Charlie Berens Sold Out for November 11

November 6, 2023 by Laurel Ciohon

Fish Creek, Wis. (November 6, 2023) – On Saturday, November 10, at 7 p.m., Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present Bizhiki, a multidimensional music performance that brings Ojibwe traditional and powwow music into an expanded musical palette. And on Sunday, November 11, Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens will deliver two sold-out performances at DCA.

Bizhiki is based around the ethereal vocals and visceral drumming of Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe) and Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe), surrounded by a contemporary soundscape created by multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer S. Carey. Expanding upon the collaborative energy of the Eaux Claires Music Festival, where Bizhiki first took shape, the performance is multifaceted and engrossing. Connecting the songs is a lyrical narrative in which Jennings and Rainey share pieces of the Anishinaabe experience around identity, loss, and revitalization, grounded within a visual landscape created by filmmaker Finn Ryan.

Bizhiki is made possible by supporting sponsor Lake Ledge Naturalist. Charlie Berens’ performance is made possible by presenting sponsor Main Street Market; major sponsor Solago Restaurant & Tequila Bar; and supporting sponsors Carrington Pub and William and Catherine Goettelman.

On Friday, November 3, Bizhiki will also perform a student matinee performance for Door County students as part of DCA’s Passport Program. Interested parties should contact DCA directly for time, availability, and pricing. The Passport Program is made possible with funding from Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik, Carrington Pub, Peninsula Pulse, Matt and Karla Sagorac, The Dörr Hotel, Wisconsin Public Radio, Chris & Willow Alexander, Grasse’s Grill, The Red Putter, the Rinkleff Family, and Wood Rabbit Acupuncture. Additional Passport Program Partners include Ephraim Historical Foundation, Friends of Gibraltar, Gibraltar Schools, and Write On, Door County.

Tickets for Charlie Berens are sold out. Tickets for Bizhiki range from $25 to $35, or $10 for all students 18 and under. Advance tickets are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
