On March 2, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present two compelling events: at 10 a.m., a Door County Talks presentation about developing fairness, respect, empathy, and equality in children; and at 7 p.m., WRiTER’S NiGHT: an original open mic hosted by Cathy Grier that will move north from The Holiday Music Motel’s Tambourine Lounge for one night only at DCA.
Door County Talks: FREE – Developing Fairness, Respect, Empathy and Equality in Children
Dr. Jason Cowell will deliver this week’s Door County Talks presentation, entitled “FREE – Developing Fairness, Respect, Empathy and Equality in Children,” at 10 a.m. in DCA’s cozy Fireside Lobby. Cowell will discuss the neural, cultural, and behavioral development of morality and empathy in children, adolescents, and adults, focusing on the current attempts at intervening and increasing empathy, morality, respect, and preferences for equality versus equity.
Jason Cowell, assistant professor of psychology at UW-Green Bay, studies the neural development of moral judgment, moral action, theory of mind, empathy, self-control, and prosocial behavior in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Hispresentation will include a post-talk question-and-answer session. Coffee and bakery from Kick Ash coffee will be available for purchase. Door County Talks events are a collaboration between DCA and The Door County Civility Project and are free to the public. Freewill donations are encouraged.
Fireside Coffeehouse Concert: Holiday Music Motel WRiTER’S NiGHT Hosted by Cathy Grier
On Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m., WRiTERS NiGHT, an original open mic hosted by Cathy Grier, moves north from The Holiday Music Motel’s Tambourine Lounge for one special night at DCA. Cathy Grier hosts this very special evening presenting a hand-selected variety of the best of the WRiTERS NiGHT regulars, leaving a handful of slots open for a “wild card” drawing in which anyone attending may enter their name for a chance to perform one of their own original songs.
Cathy Grier, a current resident of Sturgeon Bay, has been a professional musician for almost forty years. She recently competed in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and her multi-dimensional guitar technique, talents on slide and harmonica, gutsy vocal range, and sterling songcraft have garnered acclaim worldwide
Tickets for WRiTER’S NiGHT are $17.50. All seats are general admission, and seating is limited. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made at the DCA box office, located on Highway 42 in Fish Creek.
