Fish Creek, Wis. (February 19, 2024) – DCA will present the second installment of its Door County Talks series Saturday, February 24, with a morning talk by University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee lecturer Kristopher Purzycki. The presentation is entitled “For the Love of Blank Space: Creative Practice and the Impacts of Artificial Intelligence.”
All Door County Talks begin at 10:00 a.m. Lectures are free to the public; freewill donations are encouraged. Coffee and bakery will be available for purchase. Each talk will include a short break, a post-talk question-and-answer session with the speaker, and a chance to meet and reconnect with Door County friends and neighbors.
Purzycki will examine the recent rise in the use of special computer programs that can write and create art almost like humans. While many people worry these advancements might replace human artists and writers, others find them helpful for coming up with new ideas and making their work easier. In this talk, Purzycki will explore how these tools work in a simple way, look back at how artificial intelligence has been a fascinating subject for artists, and discuss what this means for the future of creativity.
DCA is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
