Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (May 22, 2020) – I don’t think it’s an understatement when we say that the past several months were something that we never anticipated. Not once would we ever have thought that we’d have to encourage people not to come to Door County. But now that we are all figuring out what our “new normal” will be for a while, we’re ready to welcome everyone back—safely.
We’ve been prepping for our reopening, implementing cleanliness and safety protocols that will allow everyone to enjoy their much needed time away and feeling safe while doing so.
We know that you have questions, so below, we’ve tried to answer them. As always, please call us directly at 920-743-6246 and we’ll try to help you any way that we can. Know that just like you, things seem to change by the day, so what was in place today may not be tomorrow.
ARE LODGING BUSINESSES TAKING RESERVATIONS?
Yes. As of Tuesday, May 19, lodging will once again be fully open throughout Door County. It’s best to contact Destination Door County or your preferred lodging establishment directly to confirm as several may have selected for a later opening date.
WHAT’S CHANGED WITH RESTAURANTS AND CAFES?
Restaurants will be limited in space for indoor dining capacity to accommodate the new social distancing safety guidelines. Many have expanded their outdoor dining spaces and sidewalk cafes to accommodate their guests. You might want to keep a jacket or blanket in the car just in case you’re dining later in the evening as it can get chilly.
Keep in mind that new safety protocols mean that kitchens may not be quite as efficient as they have been, so dining may take a little longer than what you’re used to. We consider this a great opportunity to truly relax and reconnect. We guarantee you that your food will be well worth your wait!
ARE THE SHOPS OPEN NOW?
Shops are once again open, but have limited capacity for social distancing requirements. Please note that many shops are requiring face coverings when entering, so bring your masks, bandanas and scarfs with you. Hand sanitizing stations will be available almost everywhere, so know that everyone is looking out for you and your safety.
WHAT ABOUT THINGS TO DO?
We have all of your favorite activities for you! Kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, biking, Segways—you name it! With happy places and wide-open spaces, our state, county, and city parks are open and ready for exploration. This is the perfect time to get out and get some exercise all while experiencing the beauty that can only be Door County.
WILL THERE BE ANY EVENTS THIS SUMMER?
Unfortunately, because of the concerns of “mass gatherings,” we’ve had to cancel most all of our events through mid-summer. We are closely monitoring the guidelines of the County’s Public Health Department and will be following their event recommendations. Farmer’s Markets will continue with all of your favorite fruits, vegetables, and agricultural vendors. Craft vendors are not allowed at the present time.
