Doing Business Locally Pays Dividends

December 22, 2022 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (December 22, 2022) –  The Door County Cooperative began mailing over $165,000.00 to local residents as part of its stock retirement program. Qualifying members will be receiving a check for 5 percent of the total stock they have earned in the company.

“This stock retirement demonstrates our commitment to providing a meaningful cash return to our members that support the Door County Cooperative.” said Co-op President Brian Duquaine, “There are real benefits to doing business with the company you own. By prioritizing these cash distributions, our members are able to enjoy more of those benefits today.”
Annual profits of the Door County Cooperative get distributed to its members. A portion of those profits are paid out as cash the following year. The remaining amount becomes Co-op stock before it is redeemed through this stock retirement program.

Since its formation in 1939, the Door County Cooperative has distributed millions of dollars in cash back into the community through patronage dividends and stock retirements. Today, Door County Cooperative members own over $5 million dollars of equity in their company.

Board chairperson Margie Staats thanked the community for their support and added, “When your local Co-op is successful, the members benefit. With the ongoing support of our patrons, we can continue to grow and prosper in today’s economy.”

You do not have to be a Door County Cooperative member to shop there. However, membership provides direct benefits that are free and available to everyone. To become a member, just stop by any of our locations or visit www.doorcountycoop.com.
