Donations to the Wisconsin Humane Society TRIPLED in August

August 4, 2025 by Laurel Ciohon

Wisconsin (July 4, 2025) – In August, every single dollar donated to the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) will be tripled by a generous group of donors.  This is WHS’s largest campaign of the year, and couldn’t come at a better time.  Summer is peak intake season at WHS, and many animals in the community are in urgent need of shelter, medical care, behavioral support, and a new family to cherish them.  Today alone, WHS has more than 1,400 animals in care. You can triple your impact for animals in need with this match! That means:

  • $10 will become $30 to provide a lifesaving care kit for orphaned neonatal kittens.
  • $30 will become $90 to provide public behavior support to keep dogs in their loving homes.
  • $100 will become $300 so animals can receive emergency surgery and medical treatment.

As WHS doesn’t receive general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group, the local nonprofit depends on the generosity of the community to serve more than 40,000 animals and their families every year. This year’s campaign features Doc, a 7-week-old puppy who was suffering from an injury to his leg when he arrived at WHS. When X-rays confirmed he was suffering from two broken bones, WHS veterinarians crafted a care plan to save his leg and get him back on four paws. After aligning his tiny bones and crafting custom splints, Doc was placed on strict exercise restrictions in foster care to prevent further damage. After several months he was cleared for adoption and is thriving today with his loving family – and canine sibling! None of this life-changing work would have been possible without the support of donors.

Donations will be generously matched by our wonderful friends at the Nicholas Family Foundation, Barb Gilman and her pup Sassy, Judith Ford, Dave & Judy Hecker, Patricia Bachhuber, Patti and Jack McKeithan Northwoods Fund, Kathleen Ryan, an anonymous donor, and Nancy Behrens – who donated in memory of Aggie & Gracie, the most wonderful rescues anyone could ask for. A special thanks to Virginia Kress and The George Kress Foundation for matching all gifts made to the Green Bay Campus, and to the Ruud Family Foundation for matching 100% of new donations and 50% of gifts from returning donors to the Racine Campus.
