Community Invited to May 11 Mothers & Others Day Open House at Write On, Door County
Juddville, Wis. (April 19, 2024) – Write On, Door County will host the Door County Bookmobile’s first event since the renovation of the historic (1964-1989) mobile library — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, as part of their Mothers & Others day open-house community event. Write On is the ideal organization to help launch the Door County Bookmobile’s purpose as a traveling historical exhibit, and a functioning travel library and resource for kids.
The Bookmobile will be the site for read-alouds of children’s books, and 50 free copies will be given away of the new children’s book Gaga Mistake Day by Susan Straub and recent Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Emma Straub, illustrated by Jessica Love. Copies of the book were donated by the authors. Children and their families can experience the new Door County Bookmobile firsthand … a great photo-op for parents or grandparents.
Mothers and Others Day will welcome readers and writers of all ages to the nonprofit writing center to celebrate those extraordinary individuals who shaped our lives with love, wisdom, and kindness. This free open house offers a day full of creativity, writing, and fun — indoors and out.
In addition to Bookmobile activities, events from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. include:
- Guided hikes along the Writer’s Walk
- Readings by students and local authors in the Olson Family Memorial Council Ring
- Make It – Take It creative writing, art projects, and card making for children and adults.
- Storytelling booth and audio recording center
- Mauricio’s Mexican food truck
- Music, “poems while you wait,” and more!
