Baileys Harbor, Wis. (May 6, 2024) – Award-winning naturalist, author and teacher, Charlotte Lukes, will speak about “Door County Conservation Mentors” at the next meeting of the Door Garden Club on Tuesday, May 21, at the Ridges Sanctuary beginning at 1:00 pm.
Emma Toft, Jens Jensen, Roy Lukes, and others were early advocates for preserving wild lands and native plant communities in Door County. Charlotte Lukes will highlight some of their actions and teachings for the club’s 2nd Annual Conservation Lecture.
Charlotte Lukes is a well-known environmental educator in Door County who, with her late husband, Roy, has been a dedicated advocate for the protection and conservation of Door County’s natural areas. They were inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in 2018 and have received numerous awards in recognition of their environmental work from organizations including the Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy, Door County Environmental Council, and the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology.
