Door County General Store and Pet Expressions
By Laurel Ciohon
Door County General Store in Carslville was busy with customers when I stopped in this October, and it was easy to see why. The store offers a great selection of Door County clothing and souvenirs, a golf and fishing section, seasonal gifts, a kid’s section, candy and snacks, beautiful jewelry and accessories, garden décor, and traditional Door County gifts such as lighthouses, cherry items, and nature items.
Door County General Store also houses the intriguing Pet Expressions shop, which offers unique gifts for the pet lover and their pets. I wish my dog had been with me so I could have brought him inside! Pets are always welcome in the store. Pet Expressions has homemade dog treats, fashion collars and leashes, various pet toys, coats and sweaters for your cat or dog, fun dishes and placemats, athletic jerseys and other sports related items for your pet, and Halloween costumes for pets of all sizes! Other products I noticed as I looked around were tons of breed-specific gifts, mugs, frames, rugs, ornaments, and flags.
I got to talk to the owner of both shops, Verna, who happily walked me around the entire store. She mentioned that they offer nearly 90 dog breed items and will gladly order and ship to you if your breed item is not in stock. She pointed out the huge wall of different dog treats that were almost all homemade (I picked out some cheese flavored cookies for my dog), as well as all the great Packer clothing for pets of all sizes.
Verna mentioned that she spends a lot of time picking out specific Door County themed clothing items, which her customers appreciate and return each year for. She also changes out a lot of her products due to the time of year. Since it’s autumn, there were Halloween and fall items galore, as well as the beginning of Christmas items being offered.
