Door County Habitat for Humanity and Door County Housing Partnership Build DCHP Home in Sister Bay

July 19, 2024 by Laurel Ciohon

Door County, Wis. (July 17, 2024) – Two Door County nonprofits focused on Workforce and Affordable Housing will work together this summer in Sister Bay. In this unique agreement, the home will be financed and owned by Door County Housing Partnership (DCHP) and built by Door County Habitat for Humanity (DCHfH) Volunteers!

Door Habitat Volunteers will be responsible for executing all construction, construction management and coordination. With over 30 years of Habitat Home construction experience, Door Habitat will provide the Site Supervision including coordination and management of volunteer labor. Some additional work is coordinated with professional subcontractor labor. Door Habitat will ensure the completion of the new home build and the comfort and safety of volunteers.

This DCHP home built by Habitat Volunteers will be in accordance with standard Habitat building plans. Habitat construction activities by volunteers or subcontractors will include carpentry, concrete pouring, drywall hanging and finishing, electrical work, landscaping, painting, plumbing, roofing, and siding as required to complete high quality affordable housing per Habitat and Door County standards. The home will have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and will be approximately 1240 Sq. Ft. with a 2-car attached garage. Upon completion, this Sister Bay DCHP home will be sold to a future homeowner per DCHP’s Affordable Housing Calculations and ByLaws. The land is owned by DCHP in perpetuity and leased to the future homeowner. The DCHP dwelling is owned by the future homeowner and is typically financed with a conventional mortgage. The future homeowner agrees that the dwelling will remain affordable in perpetuity with a cap on real estate market gains when sold in the future. Agreement was approved by both organization boards and signed on July 11, 2024 by Lori Allen, DCHfH and Scott Bader, DCHP.

A groundbreaking ceremony at 2423 Ava Hope Trail in Sister Bay is planned for July 30 with potential attendance by Governor Evers.
