Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (August 26, 2026) – The Door County Historical Society is turning 100 and everyone is invited to help celebrate a century of preserving and sharing Door County history at A Roaring Good Time: Cheers to 100 Years on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. at The Lodge at Leathem Smith in Sturgeon Bay.
October 1 is more than just a convenient date for a party. It marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Door County Historical Society on October 1, 1926. A century later, DCHS continues the work begun by a group of local residents who understood the importance of preserving Door County’s stories, places, artifacts and traditions for future generations.
And since the Society was born in the 1920s, there could hardly be a better way to celebrate than with a Roaring ’20s-themed party.
Guests are encouraged to embrace the era and come dressed for the occasion. Flapper dresses, fringe, feathers, pearls, suspenders, bow ties, newsboy caps and other 1920s-inspired attire are welcome. Dressing up isn’t required, but it will certainly add to the fun.
The evening will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music, dancing, and a champagne toast to 100 years of Door County history. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening, including a special signature cocktail created for the celebration. Dancers will be on in attendance to teach the Charleston, a popular dance of the era. Additional surprises and activities will help make the centennial evening one to remember.
More than a birthday party, the event is an opportunity to celebrate the generations of people who have made the Door County Historical Society what it is today — members, volunteers, donors, community partners, historians and residents who have cared deeply about preserving the county’s history.
Throughout its first century, DCHS has collected and shared local history, published important historical works, preserved historic buildings and artifacts, developed educational programs, and welcomed generations of residents and visitors to experience Door County’s past. Today, the Society operates Heritage Village at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay and Eagle Bluff Light Station in Peninsula State Park, while continuing to expand its programs, partnerships and preservation efforts.
Everyone is invited to attend the centennial celebration. Guests do not need to be DCHS members to join the festivities.
Tickets are $60 per person for the general public and $45 for DCHS members. Advance reservations are required.
