Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (November 25, 2025) — Heritage Village will come to life this holiday season as local nonprofits decorate the historic buildings in a friendly competition for the Door County Historical Society’s 3rd annual Glimpse of Christmas Past. Each group brings its own creative touch, offering visitors a festive walk through the past.
Six buildings will be featured this year:
- Vignes School – Door County League of Women Voters
- Petersen Granary – Unity Hospice
- Chapel – Hope of Door County
- Warren House – Sunshine Resources
- Kohl Fish House – Door County Humane Society
- Schopf House – Wild Ones of Door County
Buildings will be open for tours every Friday and Saturday in December from 3:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. Admission is free. Guests may vote for their favorite decorated building with a cash donation, with all proceeds shared among the participating nonprofits. These contributions help strengthen their work and support the continued growth of the Door County Historical Society.
Special programs will add to the festive spirit:
- Friday, December 12 at 6:00 p.m. – A reading of A Christmas Carol in Vignes School.
- Saturdays, December 13 and 20 at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – “Coming Home,” a Christmas story read by Leonnette Tackenberg.
- Fridays, December 12 and 19 – Period-appropriate Christmas music performed by Recorders on the Door.
Guests can also enjoy hot chocolate, coffee, and Christmas cookies in the Greene Store, with proceeds supporting the mission of the Door County Historical Society. Visitors who wish to help the organization grow are welcome to make a donation during their visit.
