Write On, Door County is proud to be a presenting partner in Door County Reads. The selection for 2020 is Leif Enger’s novel Virgil Wander. After a car accident, the title character suffers memory loss and struggles to reconstruct his past. Set in the small town of Greenstone on Minnesota’s Lake Superior shore, Virgil Wander is a bittersweet chronicle of a tightknit community with quirky characters, all-American values, and movie classics.
Leif Enger was raised in Osakis, Minnesota, and worked as a reporter and producer for Minnesota Public Radio for nearly twenty years. He lives on a farm in Minnesota with his wife and two sons.
His writing is a smooth mix of romanticism and gritty reality, recalling the Old West’s greatest cowboy stories. Enger’s novel, Peace Like a River, was one of Time magazine’s top-five novels of the year 2001 and appeared on several other best seller lists. His second novel, So Brave, Young, and Handsome also appeared on best seller lists in 2008.
Door County Reads with Leif Enger will take place on January 25 from 2–4pm at Sturgeon Bay High School Auditorium.
