Door County Scottish Terrier Empire Barks Back

May 2, 2019 by Laurel Ciohon

On the weekend of May 17-18, the Door County Scottie Rally invites you to “The Bark Side” as Scottish Terriers and their families gather from across North America to participate in the 19th Annual Scottie Rally.  Held in Baileys Harbor, WI this annual event is pivotal to the success of fundraising for Scottish Terrier health research and rescue.

Parade spectators can view the “Parade of Scots” led by the Clan Donald Pipe and Drum Corps along the parade route which travels east on County F/EE, down Park Street to Hwy 57 and returns on County F/EE.  The Parade generally arrives at the Baileys Harbor Town Square by 11:20am depending upon the speed of those numerous marching paws. Parade participants  and viewers  may be seen wearing Star Wars themed outfits to represent our 2019 theme of “THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.”

Although the Parade is a highlight for many, the actual Rally is a full range of canine and human activities held at the Door County Scottie Rally headquarters on Juniper Ridge Rd. Registration is required to attend the Rally including lunch and a full day of Scottish Terrier interaction, and opportunities to learn more about this wonderful, loyal breed that has plenty of attitude in a small package! This year’s faculty includes national competitors in grooming, obedience, agility, conformation (exhibiting in the ring) and a well-respected panel of Scottish Terrier breeders. Activities for the weekend include canine participation in pet massage, pet psychic sessions, training consultation, silent and live auctions and affordable abdominal ultrasound screenings provided by Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists of Port Washington and various SE WI locations.

The Rally is held each year to provide education to companion pet owners, contribute to the preservation of the Scottish Terrier breed, raise the public’s awareness of the uniqueness of the breed and its risk of extinction, and fundraise while having a “terrier-iffic” time!  For further information regarding registration, to volunteeror to purchase this year’s EMPIRE BARKS BACK  shirts and memorabilia log onto www.doorcountyscottierally.com and/or call (920) 493-5664 and find us on Facebook!
