Door County Scrimshanders’ Announces Their Final Season

August 8, 2019 by Laurel Ciohon

2019 will be the last season for the Door County Scrimshanders in North Ephraim.  The proprietors, Dawn and Gary Kiracofe, plan to retire after 40 years in business.  The Kiracofes opened their first Scrimshaw Shop on Mackinac Island’s Main Street in 1979.  Larger schools for their children was the incentive to move to Door County and open Door County Scrimshanders at the Shops of Green Gables in 1993.

“But there comes a time – and this is the time – for the Scrimshanders to furl the sails, lower the masts, and bring this vessel to homeport,” says Dawn and Gary. A store-wide sale will begin September 1, 2019 and will continue through October. Everything must go, including furniture, fixtures and display items.

What a voyage! Dawn and Gary say “thank you” to their loyal customers, the artisans they have represented, and so many good people with whom they have worked for sailing along with them for 40 years.

“Scrimshanders – 200 years behind the times.“
