Door County, Wis. (October 3, 2022) – Door County Soil & Water Conservation Department (SWCD) is excited to announce that students across the county can participate in the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Poster contest. The Wisconsin Land and Water Association has been hosting a Conservation Awareness Poster Contest for 65 years. Many counties throughout the state have students participate in this contest annually. Door County SWCD will participate by hosting a local contest this winter. Winners from the local contest will move onto the Lake Michigan area contest. Winners from the area contest will then move onto the state contest that is held at the Wisconsin Land and Water Conference in March.
The Conservation Poster Contest is open to all public, private, and home-schooled students in grades K-12. Judging for the posters will be split into five different grade divisions: K-1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-9th, and 10th- 12th. Posters will be evaluated on conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, universal appeal, and individual artwork. Winners in each age group will receive passes to the Door County Maritime Museum. All participants will receive a single scoop custard token from Culver’s.
The theme for this year’s contest is “One Water”. Posters should represent this theme and should include the theme title on the poster. The poster size must be 14”x 22” or 12”x18”. Students are encouraged to get creative with the type of media that they use. This can include paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, stickers, paper, or other materials. Each individual student should create their own poster. In order to be eligible for judging, each poster must have a completed and signed entry form attached to the back.
The poster submittal deadline is January 6st, 2023. Posters can be dropped off at the SWCD office in the Door County Government Center or can be picked up at a school drop-off location. website. This poster contest is a great opportunity for students to gain appreciation for the environmental and conservation.
