Door County Wearable Art Show returns to Sister Bay on Sept. 29-30

September 24, 2018 by Kate Rispens

The artists and organizers of the Door County Wearable Art Show will transform the Sister Bay Village Hall into a showroom full of local and regional designer-made contemporary clothing, accessories and jewelry on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30.

The show promises to be filled with a stunning selection of cool weather clothing and accessories, as well as handmade one-of-a-kind gifts. Warm up with the work of Lana Vosk of Milwaukee, with her hand knit sweaters and shawls as well as cozy hats and scarves. Or snuggle up to newcomer Erika Mock’s sculptural and animated scarves and shawls made from recycled fibers. Erika is a Duluth, Minnesota artist whose work is exhibited and sold throughout the U.S. If you are looking for coats and jackets, there will be no shortage of outerwear in this show, with an exciting variety ranging from Pat Rued’s impeccable tailoring to Ann Gainey’s newest Kantha quilt jackets.

Shoppers will find many tempting choices of handmade accessories at this show. Mary Mendla of Grafton WI creates stunning Shibori-dyed textiles, accent pieces rich in color and texture. Amy Taylor’s unique and elegant jewelry line features silver and gold pieces, constructed with an emphasis on unique hinge work, stunning gemstones and found objects. Award-winning quilt artist Pat Kroth will exhibit a variety of both quilted and silk pieces.

If Autumn weather makes you dream of leather, Ilze Heider’s expertly crafted leather bags will surpass your dreams with a wide variety of colorful designs. Hoping for some great deals? Local artist Sue Donohoo’s big 50% sale will do the trick.

This year’s host is Door County multimedia artist Dawn Patel, artist and owner of the Sister Bay shop Brilliant Stranger. Dawn’s booth will feature her own line of hand-woven cotton clothing made in collaboration with fair trade artisans from Nepal, as well as fine art wearables made from organic linen, hemp and vintage sari silk.  New this fall are hand-dyed and painted full-length bib overalls.

Door County Wearable Art Show runs Saturday, Sept. 29, 9 am – 5 pm, and Sunday, Sept. 30, 10 am – 4 pm at the Sister Bay Village Hall, 10693 N. Bay Shore Drive in Sister Bay. Admission is free.
