Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (November 1, 2024) — The Door County YMCA was bustling with excitement and community spirit last week as hundreds of residents gathered for various events designed to promote health, wellness, and festive fun.
Community Healthy Living Fair Draws Over 200 Attendees
The week began with a fantastic turnout at the Community Healthy Living Fair, proudly sponsored by Door County Medical Center. Held on Tuesday, the fair brought over 200 attendees to explore valuable health resources available in the area. Participants had the opportunity to connect with local health and wellness providers, learn about community support resources, and discover new ways to prioritize healthy living. The Door County YMCA extends a huge thank you to all who attended and to our dedicated sponsors and volunteers who made the event possible.
Halloween Weekend: Celebrating with Parties and Trunk or Treat!
As the week progressed, the Y got into the Halloween spirit with two exciting events! On Friday, the Sturgeon Bay Program Center hosted a Halloween Dance Party filled with dancing, games, costumes, and treats that brought smiles to children and families alike. Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Jackie and Steve Kane Program Center held a lively Trunk or Treat, offering families a safe, festive way to celebrate Halloween. Both events were a great success, thanks to the support of the community and our wonderful volunteers. These events were proudly sponsored by Quantum Technologies.
DCY Swim Team Midnight Swim Kicks Off Season in Style
Rounding out the week, the DCY Swim Team launched their season with an unforgettable Midnight Swim practice on Saturday night. With 51 swimmers registered, the night was a perfect blend of team spirit, camaraderie, and a little festive fun. The Midnight Swim allowed new swimmers to meet national-level teammates, while everyone enjoyed relay races, kick challenges, and a neon-lit pool atmosphere that kept the energy high. Adding a treat twist, swimmers were rewarded with root beer floats, cookies, and bananas—a break from typical nutrition as they celebrated from midnight to 1:00 a.m.! The team then went on to compete in their first meet in Green Bay, placing 2nd overall with only 22 swimmers. This season, each swimmer can earn a Best Time bead for individual improvements in every stroke, honoring the team’s “Olympic Dreams” focus this year. With 25 best times achieved already, the season is off to an incredible start. Looking ahead, the team has approximately 110 swimmers, with many strong competitors at all age levels and a promising group of State and National contenders. November will bring an exciting milestone as over 50 swimmers will travel by bus to the YMCA Fall Invite in Milwaukee, where they’ll compete against teams from across the state.
