Door County, Wis. (April 20, 2026) — The Door County YMCA is once again recognizing Water Safety Month this May, reinforcing its commitment to keeping the community safe in and around water.
With more than 300 miles of shoreline surrounding Door County, water safety remains a critical priority. The YMCA is dedicated to equipping individuals and families with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe while enjoying lakes, bays, and pools throughout the region.
Throughout the month, the Door County YMCA will share important water safety tips and resources on social media, focusing on safe practices in open water environments. These tips are designed to educate swimmers of all ages and experience levels, helping prevent accidents and build confidence in and around water.
In addition, the YMCA is bringing back its popular Water Safety Coloring Contest, encouraging youth in the community to learn about water safety in a fun and engaging way. Families are invited to stop by either YMCA Welcome Center to pick up a coloring page and participate.
“At the Y, safety around water is not just a program—it’s a life-saving priority,” said Tonya Felhofer, Door County YMCA CEO. “By educating our community and engaging our youngest members, we’re working to ensure everyone can enjoy Door County’s beautiful waterways safely.”
The Door County YMCA remains committed to its mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, with water safety education playing a vital role in that effort.
