Door County YMCA Welcomes Interim CEO Steve Harty

September 15, 2022 by Laurel Ciohon

Door County, Wis. (September 15, 2022) – Effective September 7, 2022, Steve joined the organization as the Interim CEO. Steve has served the YMCA organization in a variety of positions over his 38 year career.  Harty retired in December of 2018, after 20 years as the President/CEO, of the Greater Green Bay YMCA. “Steve’s reputation as a great collaborative leader and his ability to create a welcoming culture among staff and members make him the perfect fit for interim leadership for our Y”, says board chair Sally Pfeifer.

Steve states his guiding approach is simple, “leave things better than you found them”, advice that his father gave him. “The Door County Y has an amazing and hardworking team, and I’m excited to see what we can do in this time together”, says Harty.

The Door County YMCA Board of Directors will be working with YUSA to conduct a CEO search. Board Chair Sally Pfeifer, along with the CEO selection committee, anticipate having a new CEO hired by the end of the year with on-boarding of a new CEO in early 2023.

The Door County YMCA: For Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Driven by its founding mission, the Door County YMCA has 170 full and part-time staff serving over 8,800 members in Door County from facilities in Fish Creek and Sturgeon Bay in a broad range of programming for all ages. The Y empowers everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships, and opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and generations, the Y’s goal is to improve overall health and well-being, ignite youth empowerment and demonstrate the importance of connections in and across 10,000 communities nationwide.
