Ringing in its fourth year on the Door County Peninsula, the Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) presents its lineup of artists and cocktail connoisseurs. Running June 9-14, this year’s festival features an exciting range of evocative artists, on the screen, stage, and behind the bar, pouring you your next round.
Harold Green is a multi-disciplinary spoken word poet and performer, based in Chicago. His skillset is said to “defy categorization,” as a vibrant storyteller, delivering with passionate lyricism. Aggressively working to move the genre forward, each show that Green curates is a one-of-a-kind, full sensory, multi-disciplinary experience. As a performer, Green aims to push beyond the limitations of the traditional “coffee-house spoken word” blueprint, and engage a wide array of audiences.
SossyMechanics is a two-person theater and dance company that combines the energetic and charismatic forces of Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan. Their whimsical sensibilities, exacting standards, and cinematic aesthetic have earned them an award-winning reputation for creating storytelling, dances that “recall Fred and Ginger at their most playful.”
DKAF is thrilled to welcome back Lucky Plush Productions for their third festival season. The ensemble dance-theater company based in Chicago, is led by founder and Artistic Director Julia Rhoads. The company is committed to provoking and supporting an immediacy of presence—a palpable live-ness—shared by performers in real time with audiences. A unique hybrid of high-level dance and theater, Lucky Plush’s work is recognized for its layered choreography, nuanced dialogue, surprising humor, and socially relevant content.
New York Times writer and cocktail aficionado Robert Simonson will join the festival once again, hosting the 2nd annual DKAF cocktail competition at the new Hatch Distilling Co., sponsor of this year’s competition. Contestants have been asked to use a Hatch Distilling product in their cocktail creations, and are required to evoke the spirit of Door County through taste and presentation.
With contestants hailing from Door County, Green Bay and Milwaukee, the competition is sure to be fierce, as last year’s champion Danielle Wacek from Green Bay returns to defend her title.
The winning drink will be served at the festival, cultivating a sensuous experience of artistic creation for audience members to enjoy. This free event kicks off the festival, Sunday, June 9, at 3p.m at Hatch Distilling in Egg Harbor.
Yet to be announced are selections for the DKAF short film blocks Monday and Tuesday, June 10 and 11 and additional films throughout the week, comedy, free dance and other workshops, a red carpet event, and a unique special event. Information on the festival’s offerings will continue to updated at www.doorkinetic.com and on DKAF’s Facebook page.
