Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (March 4, 2024) – Door-Tran has been awarded a Legacy Grant of $3,800 by the Wispact Foundation. This funding will allow us to serve some of the most vulnerable in our community including persons with disabilities. This support is vitally important especially now due to the rising cost of living. This funding will provide half-price taxi vouchers and volunteer rider services to persons with disabilities, elderly and low-income residents of Door County.
Wheelchairs allow people with mobility issues to maintain good health and remain active in their community. Transportation for those same people comes with additional challenges and costs, for instance, traveling outside of Door County or when the public transit system is not running in their geographic region. Door-Tran established partnerships with privately owned wheelchair transportation providers to offset those travel costs.
“Without private taxis, our residents may find themselves stuck at home. We appreciate the private taxis who accept our vouchers as well as Wispact who values Door-Tran enough to support this program.” said Nikki Voight, Executive Director.
