Expanded Program Combines Pre-K Education with the Natural World
Baileys Harbor, Wis. (February 8, 2022) – The Ridges Sanctuary has announced open enrollment of its Dragonfly Nature Preschool for the 2022-23 school year. The program has been expanded to three mornings a week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9–11:30am.
“The expansion of the Dragonfly program comes in the wake of growing recognition of outdoor education,” says Katie Krouse, Director of Operations at The Ridges. “The program also offers a viable educational alternative to the community as parents weigh the risks of being in a classroom during a pandemic,” she added.
The benefits of nature education range from improved academic performance to increased physical activity to stress relief. “Our Dragonfly students gain endurance, resilience, and confidence as they hike, run, build, and embrace all kinds of weather,” says Jane Morse, Ridges Early Childhood Specialist.
Each semester will run 17 weeks. Orientation will be held September 6-9. Semester 1 will be offered September 12-January 20, and Semester 2 from January 23-June 2. Tuition is $2,300/year or $1,150/semester. Scholarships are available. The application process will open mid-March and be accepted thru June 15, 2022.
