Fish Creek, Wis. (April 14, 2025) – The Door County Historical Society is pleased to announce the seasonal opening of Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Peninsula State Park on Friday, May 23, 2025. The lighthouse will be open seven days a week from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM through the fall season.
This year’s opening marks a significant milestone in the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts at the historic site. The long-anticipated reconstruction of the original barn and summer kitchen—structures that once supported the daily operations of the lighthouse—has officially begun. While the exterior construction will continue through the summer, the messiest and most disruptive work will be completed before the May opening, allowing the site to remain welcoming and accessible to the public.
Inside the lighthouse, restoration work is also underway. This includes interior repairs and repainting of the tower walls, restoration of all windows, and repair and painting of walls, trim, and woodwork throughout the residence. The floors of the lighthouse will be refinished at the end of the season, following the conclusion of daily tours. While the majority of the interior work will be done prior to opening, there will likely be some work happening into the summer.
“Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience the lighthouse as usual, while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at historic preservation in action,” said Amy Frank, Executive Director of the Door County Historical Society. “It’s a rare chance to see how a beloved historic site is carefully restored and protected for future generations.”
Tours will continue as usual, with interpretive staff on-site to share stories of the lighthouse keepers and Door County’s maritime history, along with updates on the ongoing restoration process.
Admission to the lighthouse is $6 per person, with free admission for members of the Door County Historical Society, U.S. military personnel, and veterans. All proceeds support the ongoing care and maintenance of this historic landmark.
Donations play a vital role in the success of these restoration efforts. The Door County Historical Society invites the community and visitors alike to support this important project and help preserve the lighthouse for years to come. Your generosity helps advance our mission to collect, maintain, and share the history and heritage of Door County through preservation, education, and programming.
