It is so special to see your children (and maybe your grandchildren) with their wide eyes and smiles as they wake on Christmas morning to eagerly find that Santa Claus has arrived. In an excited frenzy, they look for their gifts and just can’t wait to open them. You simply can’t miss this special time!
The crew at Door County Coffee & Tea Co. has put together some easy ways you can enjoy every minute of Christmas morning and manage to create a fine breakfast feast for your family. Yup, they will make you look like a Kitchen Goddess and it will look absolutely effortless!
Let’s start with the most important ingredient in any family get-together – the coffee! It’s the heart and soul of every meal, and it’s even more important on Christmas morning. Wake early, sneak down to the kitchen, brew a pot of Door County Christmas, and relax as the aroma of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg fill the air. Take time to savor this first sip in the quiet of your morning before anyone in the house is awake. Quiet time is so nice.
Next, take another sip (you see a theme here?), preheat your oven to 350 degrees and begin to warm up the wonderful breakfast casseroles you prepared in advance. All of these dishes can be made the day or night before and stored in your refrigerator until morning. Simply pop these dishes in the oven and take another sip of coffee as you relax and enjoy this wonderful Christmas morning.
Here’s some of Door County Coffee & Tea Co.’s family favorites that you can make-ahead:
Connie’s Strata: A wonderful egg dish everyone will enjoy! Made with an English Muffin base, fresh-farm eggs, sour cream, cheese, sausage, mild green chilles and cheese, lots of cheese.
Hashbrown Casserole: Talk about yummy – and all it consists of it pre-cooked hashbrown style potatoes, cheese, and a crumbly corn-flake topping! Plus, you can add in anything else you’d like. It is so simple and you can make it your own.
There are also extra sides if time permits. Bacon can be baked in your oven and the aroma is irresistible! A beautiful bowl of fresh, colorful fruit is always a treat! Scones for the sweet tooth (we love Sticky Fingers Scones and they are super easy!). Serve with a pitcher of orange juice and a thermal carafe or air-pot of Door County Coffee. You, my friend, will have one fine Christmas morning spread for your family!
If you have no time to prepare the dishes in advance, we have another really fun idea–a waffle bar! Waffles can be made ahead and they stay nice and warm in the oven at 200 degrees. Serve with fresh fruit, chocolate chips, whipped cream, cherry pie filling (especially from Sequist Orchards found on our website), bacon crumbles, sprinkles – anything goes! Plus, everyone in the family will have fun building their own waffle creation.
The final tip we have is to make sure you enjoy this season of love, friendship and celebration. The holidays are the best time of year to spend time with those you love and cherish most. So grab a cup of your favorite brew, turn on the Christmas music, and enjoy the next month of family, food and friends!
