Ephraim, Wis. (June 24, 2024) – The summer season got off to a festive start at the 59th annual Fyr Bal in Ephraim on Saturday, June 15, presented by the Ephraim Business Council. Attendees enjoyed activities, music, vendors and more from morning until night.
From wooden shoe carving to axe throwing, the festival was bustling with activities all day long. The ever-entertaining pet parade provided enjoyment for all as furry friends competed for the title of the “Fur Bal Chieftain.” Both eating contests, ice cream and cherry pie, drew large crowds to watch the participants take in the local tasty treats. Attendees of all ages enjoyed making Scandinavian-inspired fresh flower crowns, decorating t-shirts, and creating their very own Fyr Bal medallion.
Approximately 50 artisan vendors were in attendance and created a bustling shopping experience. For those who wanted to enjoy a bite to eat, there was a wide variety of cuisines available at the various food vendors. Attendees enjoyed Swedish meatballs, tacos and tamales, barbecue, fresh doughnuts, brats, cheese curds, and other mouth-watering dishes.
Despite a bit of rain at the end of the day, the Scandinavian Dancers were still able to perform prior to the announcement of Betty Chomeau as the 59th Chieftain. Chomeau was honored for her involvement in various organizations within the village as well as tending to the beautiful hollyhocks outside of the Anderson Store for many years. After the ceremony, Chomeau lit the iconic, towering bonfire that signaled the lighting of other bonfires along the harbor. Since the rainy weather postponed the fireworks, fire performers closed out the evening’s celebrations with a dazzling display of twirling flames against the spectacular backdrop of Eagle Harbor.
The Ephraim Business Council looks forward to celebrating the 60th Fyr Bal festival on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
