Egg Harbor, Wis. (August 16, 2021) – Woodwalk Gallery has announced that Memphis musician Eric Lewis will return to Door County for his first show since December 2019. Lewis will perform both solo and with his special guests, The Griffon String Quartet. The concert is scheduled for Friday, August 20, 7:00 pm at Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor.
A multi-instrumentalist who performs and records with some of the top Memphis-area artists, including Tommy Burroughs, Earl the Pearl and the legendary Hi Rhythm, Lewis is well-known in Door County for his association with Buckets of Rain/The Songs of Bob Dylan, Northern Sky Theater and local songwriter Katie Dahl.
In 2003, Lewis received the Premier Player Award for Strings by the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. In 2008, Lewis was named Best Male Musician in a Door County Magazine readers’ poll. In 2017, Lewis released two new CDs, a solo effort called “Before The Last Time” and “Solid Ground: The Songs of Fred Alley,” with folksinger Katie Dahl and percussionist Rich Higdon.
Joining Lewis will be his special guests, The Griffon String Quartet. One of the most vibrant and engaging quartets of their generation, the Griffon String Quartet — Midsummer’s Music’s resident ensemble — was formed in 2018 to enrich the lives of children and adults throughout northeast Wisconsin through concerts, workshops, and music education outreach. Extraordinary musicians who have performed with orchestras and ensembles around the globe, from Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center and Brazil’s Teatro Municipal de São Paulo to Ukraine’s Lviv Philharmonic Hall, and also won prestigious music competitions and awards, The Griffon String Quartet members are equally dedicated to music education and inspiring the next generation of music lovers.
Each member of the Griffon String Quartet has advanced degrees and significant professional experience, both as educators and performers, and the ensemble has been recognized for “their youthful vigor, which is absolutely infectious!” Eric Lewis announced the upcoming performance, and noted, “This is a dream come true to be able to perform with such a high caliber string quartet for the first time! I’m still pinching myself.” Lewis will perform both as a solo artist and on several selections from his upcoming CD project with Griffon String Quartet.
