Forests and Windstorms; A Special Presentation by Lee Frelich

Windstorms are a major factor influencing the structure and composition of forests. We will examine the different types of windstorms that we have in the Great Lakes region. We will also discuss the recent wind damage in Newport State Park and potential for forest recovery. Meets in the Nature Center, Lot 1.

 Lee E. Frelich is Director of the University of Minnesota Center for Forest Ecology. He received a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. Research interests include large-scale fire and wind, earthworm invasion, and climate change in temperate and boreal forests.
