Baileys Harbor, Wis. (May 27, 2020) – Good Night, Door County by Baileys Harbor resident Ann Heyse has recently been published by Sand Beach Press. The 32-page children’s book is a night-time companion book to the very popular Good Morning, Door County that was published four years ago. That book quickly became a best-seller, and the new book is similar in style and format.
Like Heyse’s first book, Good Night, Door County has a musical, rhyming text. The author’s sister-in-law, Karen Heyse, again engages children with her colorful illustrations and fun-to-find details. The new book highlights popular Door County places and focuses on evening activities, including miniature golf, stargazing at Newport State Park, eating icecream, and enjoying a drive-in movie.
The author, a retired teacher, says the success of her first book made her realize that she wasn’t ready to stop writing about Door County. “It’s a place that means a lot to many people. Some people purchase my books as a souvenir or a travel guide, but most people just like thinking about this place that we love. There was more to say about Door County that wasn’t in the first book, so it seemed like I needed to write this one, too.”
When asked about the recommended age for Good Night, Door County, Heyse says it’s hard to pin down an answer, “It’s great as a read-aloud for young children. The rhymes help kids who are just learning to read by themselves. Older children and adults love seeing their favorite places and feeling nostalgic about this wonderful place that we love, so it’s really a great book for all ages.”
The book is 32 pages, hardcover. It can be purchased in several local shops or online at sandbeachpress.com
