Experience History and Community at “A Glimpse of Christmas Past”

December 13, 2024 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (December 13, 2024) — The Door County Historical Society invites you to A Glimpse of Christmas Past, an annual celebration highlighting the holiday season through history and community. This event takes place every Friday and Saturday in December from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Heritage Village, 2041 Michigan St, Sturgeon Bay.

Highlighting Local Organizations Through Historic Decor

A Glimpse of Christmas Past showcases the work of local nonprofits through creative decorations that support their missions and the history of Heritage Village. Each building is unique and offers a glimpse into the contributions these organizations make to Door County:

  • Sunshine Resources decorates the Heritage Chapel to reflect their commitment to joy and inclusion.
  • Door-Tran brings an edudcational-themed decor to the Vignes Schoolhouse, but ties in their transportation mission with a beautiful sleigh in the front yard.
  • Friends of Potawatomi State Park highlight winter’s natural beauty in the Kohl Fishhouse.
  • Midsummer’s Music lends an air of elegance to the Warren House, inspired by chamber music.
  • Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church uses the Schopf House to spotlight their Backpack Buddies program.

Support Nonprofits Through Donations

Admission to tour the buildings is free, but visitors can show support by voting for their favorite decorations with a monetary donation. These donations can be made via cash/check at the site or online through the Door County Historical’s Society website. All contributions are shared among participating organizations, helping them continue their important work in the community. The nonprofit with the most votes earns recognition for their efforts.

Seasonal Activities for All Visitors

The Greene Store (the only heated building) will feature holiday snacks, warm beverages, and unique gifts. Whether you’re interested in history, supporting local causes, or enjoying the holiday atmosphere, this event has something for everyone.

Supporting the Door County Historical Society

Proceeds from the event also benefit the Door County Historical Society’s preservation efforts, including maintaining Heritage Village. Donations ensure these historic sites continue to educate and inspire future generations.
