Birch Creek presents five concert dates for its Fall Concert Series plus an evening at a jazz club style bistro created in Juniper Hall for the Associates’ Fall Fundraiser on October 12.
The world-class faculty performing artists of Birch Creek return for Saturday evening concerts that are not to be missed. On August 31, Liam Teague, internationally renowned steel pan virtuoso and Percussion Session Steel Band Director, will perform with an ensemble that includes Birch Creek faculty members Yuko Asada and Scott McConnell. Teague “is one of the most accomplished and well-known steelpan composers and performers in the world” says the NIU Today article, “Steelpan in the ‘The Last Jedi’ influenced by NIU’s Liam Teague.’”
Birch Creek faculty members José Encarnación, saxophone, and Dane Richeson, percussion, bring their Lawrence University Jazz Quartet to perform original jazz compositions and exciting interpretations of jazz standards on Saturday, September 7. They will be joined by Lawrence University’s Conservatory of Music faculty members Mark Urness on bass and Bill Carrothers on piano.
On September 14, the Omega Double Keyboard piano, built by Peter Nehlsen of Washington Island, will return to Birch Creek for a unique Juniper Hall performance featuring Jodie DeSalvo (Birch Creek Symphony Faculty) and Nicholas Towns of Lawrence University. French classical music along with other crowd favorites will enthrall concertgoers for a rare duo piano performance.
The Birch Creek Associates’ Annual Fall Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, October 12 and will be a jazz-filled evening with delicious food and fine company. Three of Birch Creek’s Jazz II Session stars will perform: Jeff Campbell on bass; Rick Haydon on guitar; and Reggie Thomas on piano. Social time opens the evening at 5:30 PM followed by heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Alexander’s of Door County, and a cash bar at 6:00 PM. The concert begins at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $65 per person and all proceeds benefit Birch Creek students.
Christmas at Birch Creek completes the season with two concerts on December 7. A family matinee concert begins at 2:30 PM and the evening concert is at 7:00 PM. Children ages 11 and under are admitted for free to the matinee concert.

Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, WI, is a residential summer music academy for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz.
