Egg Harbor, Wis. (September 2, 2021) – Birch Creek presents five concert dates for its Fall Concert Series plus an evening of heart-warming jazz duos hosted in Juniper Hall for the Associates’ Fall Fundraiser on October 9.
The world-class faculty performing artists of Birch Creek return for Saturday evening concerts that are not to be missed. On September 4, The Dan Moore Trio Concert featuring Wesley Morgan, bassist, and Rodrigo Villanueva-Conroy, drummer, enjoys a unique chemistry that allows them to stretch the limits of the vibraphone trio with a refreshing twist in today’s jazz scene. Dan Moore is the program director for the Percussion and Steel Band Session offered each June at Birch Creek.
On September 11, Jodie DeSalvo, piano, presents Classical Favorites. As a Birch Creek Symphony Session faculty member, she will perform some of her favorites from the classical repertoire, including Claude Debussy’s “Clair de lune”, “Moonlight Sonata” by Ludwig van Beethoven and “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. As a concert pianist, performer, entertainer and teacher, Jodie makes her audiences feel right at home with her engaging performance of these popular classics and more!
Birch Creek faculty members José Encarnación, saxophone, and Dane Richeson, percussion, bring their Lawrence University Jazz Quintet to perform original jazz compositions and exciting interpretations of jazz standards. Encarnación and Richeson will be joined by fellow Lawrence University Conservatory of Music faculty members, Tim Albright on trombone, Mark Urness on bass, and Bill Carrothers on piano.
The Birch Creek Associates’ Annual Fall Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, October 9th and will feature a jazz-filled evening with delicious food and fine company. Birch Creek’s Jazz II Session beloved couple will perform. Reggie Thomas on piano and Mardra Thomas, vocals will tickle your heartstrings with jazz classics. The duo will be accompanied by fan favorites, Jeff Campbell, program director for Jazz Sessions and bassist, along with Rick Haydon, Jazz II Session guitarist. Social time opens the evening at 5:30 PM followed by heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Alexander’s of Door County, and a cash bar at 6:00 PM. The concert begins at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $70 per person and all proceeds benefit Birch Creek students. Limited seating, ventilated space, distanced tables, masks required until seated.
Christmas at Birch Creek, on Saturday, December 4 Birch Creek features two holiday concerts in Juniper Hall beginning with a 2:30 PM Matinee Family Concert at which all children ages 11 and under receive free admission.
A second performance in the beautifully decorated concert hall will follow at 7:00 PM. Both concerts feature favorite Christmas songs such as “Joy to the Word,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah performed by Birch Creek faculty from Symphony and Percussion Sessions, including Dan Moore, Program Director, Percussion & Steel Band, and the Birch Creek Faculty Brass, Charles Schuchat (tuba), Matt Lee (trumpet), Dan O’Connell (horn)and Tom Stark (trombone). The audience will participate in singing classic holiday songs with vocalist Cynthia Stiehl and Colin Welford on piano for a crowd favorite carol sing-along.
