Tickets are now on sale for the 4th Annual Door County Fall Lighthouse Festival. This annual festival takes place October 6-7, 2018 and is comprised of land and boat tours featuring some of Door County’s most iconic lighthouses. Visitors will get a rare opportunity to explore some of these maritime treasures and enjoy seeing them against the spectacular Door County fall foliage.
One land-based tour will be offered this year. This small group bus tour is about seven hours long and includes a guided tour of Cana Island Lighthouse, the Baileys Harbor Range Lights at the Ridges Sanctuary and a stop for lunch at Gordon Lodge.
The two-hour Lakeshore Lighthouse Cruise departs Baileys Harbor by boat and includes seeing Cana Island Lighthouse, the historic “Bird Cage” (old Baileys Harbor Lighthouse) and the Baileys Harbor Range Lights. The tour will also cruise by several shipwrecks from the 1800s that may be visible from the boat.
Departing from Fish Creek is the Chamber’s Island Tour. Guests will take a boat ride to Chamber’s Island before trekking the 3-miles round trip across the island to the 150-year-old historic lighthouse. Once there, visitors can soak up the amazing view and climb to the lantern room platform.
The Plum Island Tour is a rare offering, permitting visitors onto Plum Island and into the island buildings for a guided tour by members of the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands. This five-hour tour requires two miles of walking and departs from Gills Rock.
Sailboat lovers will enjoy the Sail Door County Schooner cruise departing from Sister Bay. It will take guests on a 19th-century tall ship to Peninsula State Park’s Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Local lore and history of the surrounding waters and water views of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse will complete this 2.5-hour sailing adventure as you view rocky shores, islands, caves and majestic bluffs.
Enjoy spectacular views and dessert on the Fred A. Busse during the Sturgeon Bay Fireboat Sunset Dessert Cruise. This tour includes a water view of the illuminated Sherwood Point Lighthouse aboard the historic City of Chicago fireboat. This narrated ninety-minute tour also includes a close-up view of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, one of the largest shipyards on the Great Lakes.
