Farm Kids Talk about ‘The Farm’s’ Early History

The Door County Historical Society will host its Saturday afternoon yesteryear program “Farm Kids Talk About The Farm’s Early History,” presented by Jane Scholz Raben, Marsha Scholz Lindh, Jan Schopf, Julie Schopf Heroux, and Laurie Schopf Stache on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 pm in the Collins Learning Center at Cross Roads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.

Jane, Marsha, Jan, Julie, and Laurie will lead a presentation on the history of The Farm. All daughters of the original owners of The Farm, these farm kids will share special memories of the early years on The Farm.

The Farm has been a living museum of rural America in Door County for 54 years. It was started by Carl and Ruth Scholz, Orv and Sally Schopf, George and Margaret Evenson, and Ralph and Arbutus Roth. They purchased 40 acres of land in 1965; this land was once part of the first commercial orchard in Wisconsin, originally owned by Joseph Zettel, a Swiss immigrant. For decades, The Farm has been dedicated to educating and preserving Door County’s rural history.

The founders of The Farm collected mementoes from their time there. Jane, Marsha, Jan, Julie, and Laurie have sifted through these artifacts and their own memories. They will use photos and personal stories in order to expertly tell the history of The Farm.  

This special yesteryear program has no admission charge but participants are encouraged to consider giving a small donation. The Collins Learning Center and Heritage Village are located at 2041 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay.  The Heritage Village is open for self-guided tours prior to the presentation beginning at 10:00 am and after the presentation until 3:00 pm; the adult admission fee is $6.50 and a donation for youth admission is appreciated. Founded in 1926, the Door County Historical Society keeps history alive for future generations through the collection, preservation and sharing of the heritage of Door County.
