Pamela K. Johnson talks about her documentary that focuses on Black people and swimming.
Juddville, Wis. (August 17, 2023) – Write On, Door County is pleased to host a coffee and conversation with filmmaker Pamela K. Johnson on Tuesday, August 29, 10 am, at Write On, 4210 Juddville Rd. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Pamela K. Johnson is a 2023-2024 O’Brien Fellow in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University. Her project is a feature-length documentary centered around Black people and swimming. Over the last five years, she has made two short films on swimming. During her conversation at Write On, she will show the short documentaries and share her lookbook for the longer project.
A journalist as well as a filmmaker, Johnson has served as second VP and Digital Content Editor for the National Writers Union. She has completed three short documentaries for the Global Sport Institute: “The Sea Is Our Garden,” “Wind & Waves,” and “Reyana’s Journey.” She is an alum of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and received a Women in Film/General Motors’ Emerging Filmmakers Grant, along with other awards. She is a former senior editor of Essence magazine and co-editor of thee anthology Tenderheaded: A Comb Bending Collection of Hair Stories, which became a produced stage play.
