Formerly located in far northern Door’s Ellison Bay, Blake and Lauren Schar opened the doors to their transplanted Fireside Restaurant in Egg Harbor on January 1st of this year. With more space in the huge quarters (the former Liberty Square), they can host private gatherings and even have a “Gallery space” for a wide range of events.
Growing up in the South, Blake learned to cook Cajun dishes and later opened his first restaurant in Scottsdale (AZ) after an education in traditional French dishes at Le Cordon Bleu. Wife Lauren describes their unique menu as a blend from the Southwest, New Orleans and France. Their Monterey Shrimp with Grits redefines the meaning of “comfort food,” but their most unusual, and perhaps most popular entrée is actually “Camel.” Yes, as in camel. Served with grits. As Lauren notes, “Blake likes to go for the unusual.”
