Fishstock Concert Series Features Folksingers Joe Jencks and Carolyn Carter on Sun., August 11

August 9, 2019 by Laurel Ciohon

The 2019 Fishstock Concert Series will feature a performance by folksingers Joe Jencks and Carolyn Carter on Sunday, August 11.

Joe Jencks is a veteran of the international folk music circuit, an award-winning songwriter, and a celebrated vocalist. Merging conservatory training with his Irish roots and working class upbringing, Joe delivers engaged musical narratives filled with heart, soul, groove and grit. As Pete Seeger noted, “The key to the future is people joining in and the music of Joe Jencks captures this essential spirit. Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on the traditions.” Singer/songwriter Carolyn Carter was born and raised in the mountains of Arkansas and chose to stay at home and raise her three children and help her local community instead of touring the country. Carter has the voice of an angel who sings of her people and their lives.

The 10-concert Fishstock Series includes a wide range of well-known musicians in the genres of folk, Americans, and alternative music. To attend a Fishstock concert, drive down County Hwy F east of Fish Creek and close to the intersection with Maple Grove Rd. you’ll notice a big white barn on the south side of the highway covered with colorful letters dubbing it “Fishstock.”

Fishstock concert tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 general admission or $20 reserved seating. For reserved seats, visit the Fishstock website and click on the ‘Buy Tickets for Reserved Seatung” on the ticket link for each scheduled artist (http://www.fishstockmusic.com/door-county-concerts.shtml).

The 100-year-old Fishstock concert barn is one of Door County’s most unique performance locations. What began in 1985 as a venture in employee housing evolved into the site of Sunday night folk, Americana and alternative music concerts.

The Fishstock Concert Series is a combination of some of the best local musicians and bands with a wide range of visiting favorites. There are seven more Sunday evenings of Fishstock’s great music and fun in the Concert Series this summer, through September 1.

Fishstock seats 150 people in the venue’s hayloft acoustic area for live intermission acts plus another 300 in the ground-level indoor area and an additional 300 in the outside seating area. Both concert ares feature independent state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, creating a personal and rustic setting for performers and audiences alike. A digital projection system with a 10 ft. screen relays the stage views to the outdoor seating.
