The 2019 Fishstock Concert Series will feature a performance by acclaimed jazz vocalist Janet Planet and band on Sunday, August 18.
Based in Oshkosh, Planet has been a mainstay of the Wisconsin jazz scene throughout her roughly 30-year career. As noted in Isthmusby music writer Katie Mohr a few years ago, “{Janet’s) voice is simple, elegant and backed by refined instrumentals that mingle for luxurious listening — including the most urbane rendition of “Deep in the Heart of Texas” you’ve ever heard. Her voice conveys an easy confidence that is strong and emotional in all the right measures, but sometimes all but disappears into floating, ethereal tones, like smoke curling through the air. A self-declared hybrid musician, Planet plays a mix of jazz and blues, plus arrangements of work from familiar musicians.”
The 10-concert Fishstock Series includes a wide range of well-known musicians in the genres of folk, Americans, and alternative music. To attend a Fishstock concert, drive down County Hwy F east of Fish Creek and close to the intersection with Maple Grove Rd. you’ll notice a big white barn on the south side of the highway covered with colorful letters dubbing it “Fishstock.”
Fishstock concert tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 general admission or $20 reserved seating. For reserved seats, visit the Fishstock website and click on the ‘Buy Tickets for Reserved Seatung” on the ticket link for each scheduled artist (http://www.fishstockmusic.com/door-county-concerts.shtml).
The 100-year-old Fishstock concert barn is one of Door County’s most unique performance locations. What began in 1985 as a venture in employee housing evolved into the site of Sunday night folk, Americana and alternative music concerts.
The Fishstock Concert Series is a combination of some of the best local musicians and bands with a wide range of visiting favorites. There are seven more Sunday evenings of Fishstock’s great music and fun in the Concert Series this summer, through September 1.
Fishstock seats 150 people in the venue’s hayloft acoustic area for live intermission acts plus another 300 in the ground-level indoor area and an additional 300 in the outside seating area. Both concert ares feature independent state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, creating a personal and rustic setting for performers and audiences alike. A digital projection system with a 10 ft. screen relays the stage views to the outdoor seating.
