Door County, Wis. (July 19, 2023) – Your gift for wild animals before 7/31 will be matched up to $10,000! After this Great Horned Owl was hit by a vehicle, he got stuck in the grill of the car! A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources warden was able to safely remove, and transport the owl to the Humane Society’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Milwaukee Campus for care. Upon arrival, he had some trauma and bruising to his body and face, injuries to his wrists, and damage to his tail feathers.
With some tender love and care, he made an incredible recovery and their last task was to finish correcting those damaged tail feathers. The body does molt them out naturally, but it takes time (sometimes as long as a full year!). He grew in some new feathers to his tail, but to speed along the process, they imped (grafting on new feathers) the remaining broken feathers to send him on his way. In the meantime, he’d been eating well in their largest flight cage and healing great. And now, they’re happy to report that they recently released this Great Horned Owl back into the wild!
Warm weather means that hundreds of wild animals like this special patient are in our care every day. Will you consider a gift today to help meet the critical needs of so many vulnerable animals? PLUS, your donation will be automatically MATCHED by Wisconsin Humane Society friends, doubling your impact and saving more animals in need. The match ends July 31, so don’t miss this amazing opportunity. Please help. Your support will go to immediate work making life better for the wild animals in our care.
