Midsummers Music’s affiliate, the Griffon String Quartet, received $2,500 from the Door County Community Foundation for its outreach to support the mental health and wellbeing of seniors in the Door County community.
Sister Bay, Wis. (May 16, 2025) – Midsummer’s Music is pleased to announce that its affiliate, the Griffon String Quartet, was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Door County Community Foundation for its outreach to support the mental health and wellbeing of seniors in the Door County community. The Mental Health Support Fund is a fund of the Door County Community Foundation, Inc., established to promote mental health awareness, support mental health education, and provide mental healthcare for people in Door County.
The Quartet’s B Double Sharp program presents mini concerts for the aging or disabled, as well as their caregivers. Targeting people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in association with the Door County Medical Center and Scandia Village, the quartet creates a welcoming atmosphere where people can share their observations and feelings about the journey of aging or memory loss. Attendees gather to connect with others who are facing the same questions and concerns and begin to build a community of support. These concerts support those individuals with music and learning.
Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
