Habitat for Humanity: Shop. Donate. Volunteer.

If you're a treasure-hunter like I am, Habitat for Humanity ReStore is the place for you. You truly never know what you're going to find! I stopped at the ReStore a few years back when I was refurbishing a vintage camper and I needed some obscure, hard-to-find parts, such a retro knobs and 60s style decor. I returned to the ReStore last week to poke around and see what I could find. The Sturgeon Bay thrift store, which opened its doors in 2009, did not disappoint.
The ReStore accepts items that Door County residents no longer want or need, including new and used furniture, appliances, cabinets, doors, windows, sinks, light fixtures, home decor, tile, paint, and so much more. Some items that stuck out to me where a hand-carved wooden – almost throne-like – chair, an old heavy trunk, a vintage Thomas radio, a schoolhouse desk in amazing condition, and brand new subway tile in several colors. The wooden chair was priced at $25, so I bought it with the hopes of refinishing it someday. I made a mental note to myself to stop here next time I'm doing any home repairs. Between the light fixtures and the tile alone, I could see myself saving a ton of money by shopping here instead of one of the big box stores.
In addition to shopping at the ReStore, you can also donate! There are so many great reasons to donate to Habitat for Humanity, including keeping usable items out of landfills and helping others in the community who need furniture or appliances at an affordable price. Everything is priced 50-80% off retail price and anyone can shop there! Donating also helps support affordable housing in Door County. Money is raised through purchases, events, and donations for Door County Habitat for Humanity’s projects, including its most recent event in August 2019, the Vintage Home & Garden Fair.
