Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (April 28, 2023) – The Door County Historical Society is proud to announce the Heritage Village Opening Day Celebration on May 20, 2023. The event will take place at Heritage Village at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St, Sturgeon Bay, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Opening Day Celebration will mark the beginning of the 2023 season at Heritage Village and will be a fun-filled day for families and individuals of all ages. There will be live performances by local musicians, historic building tours, blacksmith demonstrations, Madden Tool Museums tours, outdoor games, and other activities to keep attendees entertained throughout the day. The celebration will also feature food vendors and one-of-a-kind merchandise in the general store.

“We are thrilled to host an Opening Day Celebration and provide an opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a day of fun, and learn about history, too,” said Amy Frank, Executive Director of the Door County Historical Society. “Our goal is to share what community life was like in Door County over a hundred years ago and offer an enjoyable experience for everyone.”

The event is free and open to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring their friends and family to enjoy the festivities. Historic building tours, food, and gift shop items available for a fee. The Door County Historical Society would like to thank our volunteers and partners for their support in making this event possible.

About Heritage Village at Big Creek

Heritage Village at Big Creek is a living history museum – a collection of historic buildings, each of which reflects a specific contribution to Door County’s development from 1852–1910. Through self-guided tours, visitors of all ages can explore a general store, schoolhouse, chapel, fish house, granary, and more. Several days a week, the village comes alive with demonstrations, reenactments, and hands-on activities that allow visitors to engage with the past in a meaningful way, including wood carving, butter churning, and other traditional activities. This offers a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the skills, craftsmanship, and way of life of Door County’s early European settlers.

The Heritage Village at Big Creek is open Wednesday – Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. starting May 20 – October 29. Located at 2041 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, at the intersection of Highway 42/57 and County Highway TT, parking is available on-site. For additional information visit doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org  or contact 920.421.2332.  Admission to Heritage Village is free, but as a donor-sponsored facility, donations are greatly appreciated and welcomed.
