Hide Side Corner Store: Bringing the Southwest to the Midwest

I was so excited to find another shop open during the week in northern Door County this winter!  Hide Side Corner Store is open daily year round, so when I stopped by the eclectic store mid-week this February, I was happily greeted by sales associate, Lori Haberli.  The store was warm and welcoming with the lure of cozy Ugg boots displayed right near the front door, and rack after rack of winter coats, hats, scarves and mittens to keep shoppers warm this winter.

Established in 1974, Hide Side Corner Store has been in its Fish Creek location since 2003. Owners Mike and Jim Surges, a father and son team, have also had store locations in Sister Bay and Baileys Harbor, as well as the current Hide Side Boutique, owned by Judy Surges, just down the street in Fish Creek.  I’m excited to check out the Boutique as well, but I’ll save that for a future shopping blog!

You definitely can’t miss Hide Side Corner Store with its prominent location at the corner of Main Street in downtown Fish Creek, as well as its amazing collection of colorful and unique yard art displayed in front of the store year round.

Inside the store, it’s obvious that the store has a huge Southwestern influence.  Southwestern home décor and art, leather goods, and a large selection of knives were what caught my attention immediately. Hide Side Corner Store also has a large selection of gorgeous jewelry, men’s and women’s clothing, purses, belts, shoes, brief cases, luggage, iPad cases, watches, wallets and Packer jackets, most of which are made of designer leather and fur.

Some of Hide Side’s more well-known brands are Remy, Lone Pine, Brighton, Uggs, Mephisto, and William Henry. The owners strive to carry mostly American-made items from the West Coast, Arizona, and Texas.  I spent nearly an hour examining all the varied and unique items they carry.

Hide Side Corner Store is open daily 10am-5pm in the winter, and daily 9am-9pm in high season.  They are only closed on Christmas Day, New Years Day, and Easter.  Hide Side Corner Store is located at 9413 Hwy.42 at the corner of Main Street in Downtown Fish Creek.  Visit them online and ‘Like’ them on Facebook.
