Delight in the tales of lighthouse keepers through story, song, and poetry at the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse for Twilight Tours, Tunes & Tales on the fall evenings of September 29-30 and October 6-7. On these special evenings a friendly glow will shine on the path leading to the keeper’s house, the same warm glow that emanated from Julia Duclon as she welcomed lighthouse visitors for 35 years.
On these special evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, the Northern Door Storytellers Guild will visit Eagle Bluff and share tales of the sea and lighthouse lore, perform traditional music, and recite legends in verse. The Northern Door Storytellers Guild evolved from a storytelling class at The Clearing Folk School in 2007. “We are excited to continue the tradition of opening the lighthouse to guests after dark,” said Linda Faust, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse Manager. “To offer this family friendly experience to our visitors is a real treat. The Storytellers are great fun and very talented.”
The lamp at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse was first lit 149 years ago on October 15, 1868, and has continued to serve as a navigational aid. Manned as a residential lighthouse for 58 years, the three keepers who lived in the Milwaukee City cream-colored brick building were dedicated and diligent. “It was a rigorous life, without the benefit of modern conveniences and our tours recreate that life,” said Faust.
Peninsula State Park is home to Eagle Bluff Lighthouse on Shore Road; a park sticker is required for entry.
