Ellison Bay, Wis. (March 18, 2022) — Island Orchard Cider wins a silver medal for Ice Cider in the 5th Annual Cidercraft Awards! The Cidercraft Awards included entries from over 500 cideries worldwide, with a blind taste test by cider experts deciding the competition winners.
Island Orchard Cider’s Ice Cider is unique as it is produced solely with Macintosh apples, known for their fine aromatic quality, from the business’ orchard on Washington Island. To make Ice Cider, Macintosh apple juice is pressed and stored in large totes for slow cold-fermenting throughout the winter. This ferment style increases the cider’s sugar and alcohol content, resulting in a sweet still dessert cider similar to ice wines.
Owner Yannique Purman shares that “It’s an honor to be recognized for our Ice Cider. We’re proud of our entire team, from the orchardist to bottlers, for making this delicious cider an international award winner!”
