On Tuesday, January 28, at 7 p.m., the unconventional, award-winning dance troupe Pilobolus will present its original mixed-media program “Shadowland: The New Adventure” on the Door Community Auditorium (DCA) main stage.
Formed by a group of college students at Dartmouth in 1971, Pilobolus has never been a “typical” dance troupe: several original members had no dance training, and some of the group’s first performances were as an opening act for Frank Zappa. But Pilobolus’s legacy of magic and movement is undeniable. Now an internationally renowned movement company, Pilobolus tests the limit of human physicality, exploring the power of connected bodies.
The Orlando Sentinel says that Pilobolus creates “a stunning world of imagination, athleticism, and grace.”
In 2009, Pilobolus created Shadowland, the first show of its kind, which has since performed in 32 countries for over a million people. At DCA, Pilobolus will present an all-new Shadow adventure. “Shadowland: The New Adventure” uses mixed media to tell a love story about two people and their quest to save a magical bird. Employing animation, video, and live shadow theater, this madcap adventure draws on science fiction, film noir and romantic comedy.
At 9:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on the 28th, Pilobolus will perform for Door County students, presenting the program “Pilobolus Is a Fungus.”
Pilobolus’ performances at DCA are made possible with support from Winter Series sponsors Dahl Law Firm and Ross Estate Planning; supporting sponsor The Cordon Family Foundation; and the following Passport Program Partners: Friends of Gibraltar, RocketDSD.com/IceCreamSouce.com, and Alexander’s Restaurant. DCA is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Pilobolus’ public performance begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28. Ticket prices range from $45 to $75. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
