By Visit Fish Creek
It’s officially October, which means we’re officially on Fall Color Watch here in Fish Creek!
We don’t want you to miss the action, so we took a stroll around town and rounded up our Top 5 “Places to Catch the Fall Colors” in Fish Creek. Ready? Here we go!
#1: Peninsula State Park
This one is a given, but we’re listing it anyway, as a drive or hike through Peninsula State Park is hard to beat when it comes to places to take in the vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds of fall. A quiet drive along Shore Road will not only take you through a canopy of trees but also past picturesque views of Fish Creek’s harbor and Green Bay. Or, if you prefer to travel by two wheels, hop on a bike and peddle through stands of majestic maple and beech trees.
While in the park, don’t miss your opportunity to see one of the most stunning fall color views in all of the county from on top of the newly rebuilt Eagle Tower. The inclusive tower allows everyone to immerse themselves in the beauty of a bird’s eye view of fall in Fish Creek thanks to the accessible 850-foot ramp that winds its way through the colorful trees before reaching the top, where stunning views of Green Bay await.
#2: Fish Creek Park
Just across the street from the main entrance to Peninsula State Park is Fish Creek Park. This 27-acre wooded town park is pet-friendly and features two easy-to-traverse hiking loops: the Butterfly Loop and the Peninsula Players Loop. (Fun Fish Creek fact: the park is also the site of the original Peninsula Players Theatre!) Take in the changing leaves, the creek that gives the Town its name, as well as fantastic views of the bluffs above that overlook Fish Creek.
#3: Fish Creek Beach
You’ve taken in the view of the leaves from inside Peninsula State Park, now view them from across the water! Wander into town, then take a stroll out onto the viewing dock at Fish Creek Beach. Across the bay, watch the changing leaves along the headland for a different perspective of Peninsula State Park.
#4: Cottage Row & Maple Grove Roads
Cottage Row may have a reputation for its magnificent homes, but it’s the tunnel of gold created by the trees that really make this town road a must-see stop on your fall color scavenger hunt.
After you’ve cruised Cottage Row, head to the other side of Fish Creek and take a drive in the country along rural Maple Grove Road. As the name suggests, the maple-lined route puts on a spectacular display of fiery hues.
#5: Founder’s Square
You can’t talk about fall color in Fish Creek without mentioning Founder’s Square, where some of the town’s oldest and most picturesque maple trees reside. Each fall, these towering giants add a splash of color to historic downtown Fish Creek and create the postcard-perfect backdrop for one of our most anticipated fall events, Jack O’ Lantern Days!
